"Ilona Van Hoek"

"I don't talk about my work, I paint." This is what Ilona Van Hoek had to say when she was asked about her vibrant art. And painters should paint - they are far too occupied with talking; often so much so that their work cannot stand alone; it has no form without the written component.

This is not true in the case of Ms. Van Hoek. It is difficult to speak about her work: it is complex, taut; it has light, weight, mass - and much more. The critical and rare aspects of art happen at the juncture between the manifest and implied, inside the obvious. Ilona's work has both inside and outside. What is outside is harmonic and what is inside is intense and profound.
