The paintings of James De Blas feature beings resembling the animal-headed deities of ancient Egypt who tend to serve as ornaments rather than characters involved in a story, positioned to lend symmetry rather than caught in the middle of action. De Blas demonstrates an almost fauvist affinity for bright colors, which, along with starkly precise shading and fit physiques of the mystical beings, results in something that resembles Japanese anime.
